What does “DIYAC Insider” Even Mean?
DIYAC stands for Do-It-Yourself Air Conditioning.
Not “Destroy It Yourself.” Not “Definitely Ignore Your Contractor.”
Just… learn enough to stop getting played.

This site is built for three types of people:

  1. Homeowners who want to actually fix stuff themselves
  2. Homeowners who are tired of guessing what their A/C guy is doing
  3. New techs who want real-world A/C advice from someone who’s baked in 140° attics and survived (and for willing contributors of the trade. Please reach out, share links/comments, etc., and thank you!)

If you belong to any of those groups, welcome.
If you don’t… you’ll probably still learn something by accident.

Before I go any further, if you are still reading, this site is for YOU. I need YOUR input, what YOU want to know. I will tell you a little about myself but this site is NOT ABOUT ME. This “About” page is about YOU.

I AM a former Florida state-licensed HVAC contractor, multiple business owner, blogger, and college grad.

None of this was handed to me,

I started as the kid picking up trash, carrying tools, sweating through my socks, and trying not to die in attics that felt like the surface of the sun. I showed up early, never called in sick, and stayed busy because standing around made me feel stupid.

Summer of ’98, Long Island.
$7 an hour.
90-hour weeks.
Crawl spaces with “crawl” being a generous term.
Blown-in insulation.
Rat poop.
Dream big, right?

Anyone doing that today for minimum wage? Didn’t think so.

I asked for raises. Got pocket change. Took it anyway. Then quietly found a better job that paid closer to what I deserved. I still gave two weeks’ notice (like an adult). I worked at the next job for 6 – 8 months, rinse and repeat. (For new helpers, if you do not understand that, email me)

That simple formula doubled my pay in two years:

  • Be dependable
  • Be teachable
  • Do what others won’t
  • Don’t be a pain in the ass

Before I was 21:

  • Was the right-hand guy in a growing HVAC company
  • Bought my first house
  • Was making real money
  • Learning installs, service, ductwork, airflow, controls—everything

No handouts.
No shortcuts.
Just work.

By 26, I was a Florida state contractor.
Five years in the field can get you there if you’re built for it. Again, ask me. Clearly, I am willing to share.

Now I’ve got 25+ years in HVAC and construction, multiple companies, and a degree—and I’m here to pass on what actually matters before you waste money or waste your career.

Everything here is educational and for entertainment. Some of it is absolutely not beginner-level, but I promise you that air conditioning is not rocket science. We will not get too much into the high-end Trane systems with blinking diagnostics. At least not for a while, so the stuff I am sharing IS achievable for you, if you are willing to learn AND put the effort in. It will save you money but take your time. Weigh the difference. I’ll also add difficulty ratings so you’ll know when to consider a professional.
